AN EGYPTIAN WOOD AND BRONZE DAGGER
NEW KINGDOM, DYNASTY XX, REIGN OF RAMESSES V, 1156-1151 B.C.
The bronze tapering, pointed blade with a prominent mid-rib on both sides, flaring at the broad end and joined by two rivets on each side to the bevelled end of the wood handle, the concave grip carved on one side with a frontal head of Hathor with broad bovine ears, long flowing hair and a naos headdress, a hieroglyphic inscription below in two registers with the Prenomen and Nomen of the Pharaoh Ramesses V, reading: "User-maat-Re Sekheper--Re Mer-Amun; Kha--Maat Ramesses"

Acquired by the current owner's family in the 1940s.
