With rebrowned twist barrels signed in full on the partially matt rib, bead fore-sight, rear-sight of four folding leaves calibrated to 200 yards, case-hardened border and scroll engraved action with carved fences, signed bolted back-action locks, and pistolgrip trigger-guard forming the under-lever, well figured 14¼in. (36.2cm.) stock with raised cheek-piece with applied padded leather-covered pad, silver escutcheon, and expertly refinished throughout, London proof marks, in original fitted oak case lined in green baize with some accessories, the lid with Purdey trade label, the exterior with circular brass escutcheon and flush-fitting brass escutcheon

The makers have kindly confirmed that this gun was made for Arthur Wellesley, 2nd Duke of Wellington. It is recorded as being a 38-bore double barrelled breech-loading rifle with 26in. barrels.
