Lot Essay

The gold inscriptions on the blade give the names of two rulers of the Hyderabad (Sind) House, Mir Murad 'Ali Khan and his brother and Mir Ghulam'ali Khan (d. 1811). A sabre owned by Mir Murad 'Ali Khan is in the Wallace collection (OA1762). The Talpurs were noted collectors of watered steel blades such as the present example. The blade is probably 18th century Persian.
