LOUIS JOSEPH MONDHARE (fl.later 18th century), Publisher

L'Asie divisée en tous les etats, dressée sur de nouveaux memoires et suivant les dernieres observations. Paris: Mondhare et [Pierre] Jean, 1788. Hand-coloured engraved wall map by Chambon with inset plans of Madras and Pondicheri and uncoloured border of 17 historical scenes. (Some light soiling, several closed tears, occasional small holes, small area of paper damage above New Guinea, old fold lines, newly backed on linen.)

MONDHARE AND JEAN'S WONDERFULLY OSTENTATIOUS WALLMAP OF ASIA which differs from that after Clouet which Mondhare published in 1782. The present map has only one large cartouche as opposed to two smaller ones. This occupies the North Pacific area and gives China and Japan a much more central position than the earlier map. RARE.
