The shaped rectangular top above two drawers and a bow-knot-tied pierced apron, the sides with applied parcel-gilt foliate cartouches, on ribbon-tied cabriole legs, with typed label to top drawer 12497/L334/1 commode/trl/ORL, the top possibly replaced

Lot Essay

The distinctive pierced apron and pounced lozenge and bead borders related to a group of pieces by the Köster family workshops in Altona in the 1760's (see A.I. Kratz, Altonaer Möbel, Hamburg, 1988, pp. 214-224, figs. 37-53). Related Altona commodes were sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 10 December 1992, lot 180 and Christie's, New York, 24 September 1998, lot 382.
