INDENTSecond Lieutenant Douglas Gatecliff Mathwin of Birkdale, Lancashire educated at Bickerton House School was gazetted to the 9th Bn. King's Liverpools November 1914 (full biographical details in Vol. I Roll of Honour). He was killed in action near Richbourg during the attack on Auber's Ridge 9 May 1915

Captain Nicholas Albert Roy Van Guisen of Liverpool educated at St. Peter's College Radley, 1904-06 entered the King's Liverpool Regiment, 1909 and became Captain 1914; unfit for foreign service until 1917 he proceeded to France in February, was wounded in December and again in June the following year. He was killed in action gallantly leading his men in a successful assault at Achiet-le-Grand 21 August 1918 during the first day of the Battle of Bapaume (Newspaper obituaries refer)
