    Peter Paul Rubens, Flemish (1577-1640)

Castor and Pollux were the sons of Zeus through his union with Leda in the form of a swan. Prior to their abduction, Leucippus' daughters were betrothed to another set of twins, who were in turn Castor and Pollux's cousins.

The original Rape of the Daughters of Leucippus (1618) is now in the collection of the Alte Pinakothek, Munich. See Christie's, New York, 23 April 2004, lot 254 and 24 October 2006, lot 14 for similar examples.
