    A BLUE AND WHITE HOOKAH BASE IN THE FORM OF A DUCK, SAMSON, FRANCE, 19TH CENTURY
    On a hexagonal base, with realistically rendered body, head turned over one wing, the body decorated with cobalt dots, fishscale patterns and stripes and the underside with small swirls, the back with star shaped knob and the breast with hole, underside of base with the Arabic letter sin indicating the Samson workshop - 7in. (19.9cm) long

    This duck is a direct copy by Samson of the original, probably made in Mashhan in the first half of the 17th century, which is now in the Victoria and Albert Museum (Arthur Lane, Later Islamic Pottery, London, 1957, pl. 77A)
