    A BLUE GAUZE 'DRAGON' ROBE, A MANDARIN OFFICIAL'S SUMMER HAT AND A SINGLE-EYE PEACOCK FEATHER PLUME
    QING DYNAST, LATE 19TH CENTURY

    The robe finely worked in satin stitch and dense couched gold and orange threads with nine writhing five-clawed dragons amidst cloud clusters interspersed with bats and beribboned Buddhist and Daoist emblems, all above the terrestrial diagram and lishui stripe at the hem, all picked out in shades of blue, red, grey, cream and purple against blue gauze ground, with matching black ground collar and cuffs; the summer hat constructed of a conical bamboo frame covered with a seamless piece of white silk, surmounted by an opaque blue glass bead signifying an official of the fourth rank, fastening twisted red tassels above the brocade trim along the rim, the interior lined with red gauze; the single-eye peacock feather plume fitted into a cylindrical jadeite tube of mottled green and white colour, the hat and plume with presentation boxes
