This rare form based on an English silver model of the early Georgian period. A virtually identical Canton enamel kettle on stand, possibly originally a pair to this example, is illustrated by D. Howard in A Tale of Three Cities: Canton, Shanghai & Hong Kong, exh. cat., London, 1997, cat. 202.
