The present box and cover appears to be from a set of boxes, each with a different scene of immortals in landscapes and an accompanying four-character inscription to the interior of the lid describing the scene on its cover. Two other examples in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, were included in the exhibition Carving the Subtle Radiance of Lacquers, Taipei, 2008, and illustrated in the Catalogue, p. 126, nos. 118 and 119.
