    The octagonal base with a rope-twist border and an unusual band of relief-cast foliate decoration, rising to a low drip tray with rope-twist border, pillar stem and matching top sconce, an indistinct makers touch to the sconce and with ownership initials 'I.P.' stamped under foot

    This rare Stuart candlestick is closely related to those by the maker I.B. in the collection of the Worshipful Company of Pewterers (No. 56/603), The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge (previously in the de Navaro collection) and in private collections, discussed by John Gadd in 'Pewter Candlesticks', The Pewter Society, 2004. Similar examples were sold from The Little Collection, Christie's London, 1 May 2007, lots 9 and 131.
