    Mark of Hendrik de Wit, Amsterdam, date-letter indistinct possibly 1766
    The steel blade finely etched with stylised strapwork and scrolls, the silver hilt with twisted reeded panels within scroll rims, baluster finial, marked on hilt

    A similar Amsterdam small sword was sold in these rooms on 12 October 2005, lot 35.
    Hendrik de Wit worked between 1760 and 1808, specializing in corkscrews, was born in 1740, the son Jacob de Wit and Trijntje Mentink. He married to Judikje van Oosten in 1765 and died in 1813.
    A similar small sword, also made in 1766, is in the collection of the Amsterdam Historisch Museum.
