According to Lopienski family records, the design for this exquisite centre-piece is attributed to a close friend and accomplished sculptor known as Trembicki Michal (d. 1903). Bearing the artist's monogram TM, the design almost certainly dates to the last quarter of the 19th century and was produced in varying sizes. A smaller version of this model set with a cobalt-blue glass centre-bowl was sold Christie's, New York, 25 October 2005, lot 517 ($43,200).
