    A FINE PALE CELADON JADE BOULDER
    QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)

    Of irregular columnar shape, deeply carved with a scholar followed by two attendants, walking along an inclined path with steps leading to terraced buildings in the distance, underneath an overhanging cliff, the scene is further detailed with craggy rocks growing leafy trees, the reverse is carved with a steep staircase ascending to a pavilion on a ledge, framed by pine and prunus trees, the stone of a very pale celadon tone with areas of amber inclusions highlighting the carving

    During the Qianlong reign, the Emperor requested that jade mountains, as well as plaques and panels with scenes of mountainous landscapes take their artistic influence from the work of famous painters.
