    Of rectangular form, carved in shallow relief with a pair of dragons to the top, on one side depicting a scholar and his attendant crossing a bridge beneath bamboo with a pavilion in the background, the reverse with an inscription, the stone of an even white tone

    The inscription is derived from the poem: Zhu lou ji 'Building a Bamboo Mansion', composed by Wang Yu, a Song official and poet. It can be translated as follows:

    'Summer is good for listening to the falling rain, like the sound of waterfall; winter is good for listening to the falling snow, like the sound of breaking jade.'
