    The rectangular panel carved on one side in high relief with scholars and attendants playing go, viewing a scroll and crossing a bridge, within a tree-lined rocky scene, the reverse with a seven-line poem and a seal, the stone of a pale tone with a snowy russet area to the top left corner

    The reverse of the screen is inscribed with one of the Emperor Qianlong's poems, and may be translated as:

    'There is great pleasure in playing chess and looking at paintings;
    It is of no moment that one's hair is white so long as one's eyes are strong.
    It is not certain that the painting is that of Song Nian;
    Nevertheless I envy anyone who looks at the Jade Plaque'.
