Cf. a Qianlong marked bowl of the same pattern sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 2 November 1999, lot 552.

The imagery of boys expresses the wish for the owner of the bowl to have numerous offspring, while the image of the boys playing with lanterns and lighting firecrackers may suggest that the scene here is of the Lantern Festival held on the 15th day of the lunar new year.
