    A four-case inro, signed Kansai, 19th Century
    decorated in gold, silver and iroe hiramakie and takamakie, kimpun, togidashie and kirigane, depicting Rosei's Dream and the court procession Rosei is dreaming of, rising as in a vapour, the fan of aogai, nashiji interior, signed with kao; together with an ivory hako-netsuke of the same subject where the dream is carved within the hako (box), signed Kyoun -- 3 15/16in.     Rosei, leaves his village to search for a better existence. He hears that the Emperor needs more councillors and hopes he will be given a chance. One day he arrives at an inn where the wizard Roko has left a pillow behind on which he rests. Rosei dreams of rising in power to minister of state and beyond. He awakes to find that Life is but a dream and everything is temporary. He decides to return back home.

    This may well be the work of Kansai II whose pupil was the Zeshin.
