Lot Essay

The Parisian firm of Sormani made furniture for eighty-seven years between 1847 and 1934; this piece can be dated to after 1867 when the company moved to 10 Rue Charlot. Paul Sormani (d.1877) exhibited at the Exposition of 1849 where he won a bronze medal; in 1855 he won a first class medal, and another in London in 1862. He also exhibited in 1867 and 1878 in Paris. He has a reputation for high quality reproductions and interpretations of Louis XVI furniture.
