Although the arms are those of Sir James Montgomery, 1st Bt, the inscription is dated one year after his death so it was presumably presented to his son the 2nd Bt.

    Provenance

Sir James Montgomery, 2nd Bt. (1766-1839), and by descent at Stobo and Kinross.
