    Each shaped oval, engraved with crest and motto, the 1791 and later pieces also engraved with a baron's coronet, each marked on reverse, comprising:
    Four platters, mark of Lewis Herne & Francis Butty, 1763, 11½ in. (29.2 cm.) long
    Four platters, by the same, 1763, 13 in. (33 cm.) long
    Two platters, by the same, 1763, 16 in. (40.7 cm.) long
    One platter, mark of Wakelin & Garrard, 1793, 16 in. (40.7 cm.) long
    One platter, mark of Herne & Butty, 1763, 18 3/8 in. (46.8 cm.) long
    One platter, mark of Charles Kandler II, 1778, 18 3/8 in. (46.8 cm.) long
    A pair of mazarines to fit the previous two platters, mark of Wakelin & Taylor, 1791, each 15¾ in. (40 cm.) long, scratch marks engraved on reverse: 22=15 and 23=10

    The crest is that of Amherst for Jeffrey Amherst (1717-1797) who led a distinguished military career. In North America he was Commander-in-Chief from 1758-1764 with numerous successes including taking Montreal and with it all Canada in 1760. He was Governor of Virginia from 1759-1768 and of Guernsey from 1770-1797. He was created K.B. 1761, P.C. in 1772, Baron Amherst of Holmesdale in 1776 and Baron Amherst of Montreal in 1778.
