MARK OF HEINRICH STRAUB, NUREMBERG, DATED 1628
The waisted tapering cylindrical body chased with lobes and foliage scrolls, on lobed spreading foot and with vase shaped stem with applied foliage and scroll brackets, the conforming cover with later figural finial, engraved at the rim with an inscription, the cover applied inside with a plaque and further later engraved with an inscription dated 1692, marked near rim and on foot, the foot further marked with a later Austrian tax mark

The inscription around the rim translates as 'Night March 1628, the Guild Members had this Cup made and the present senior Guild Members were the following: Ruprecht Schuer, Assmis Gremeissen, Hanns Endres Schnieder, Lienhart Hoffman Ect and then members of this Guild Rottschmidtgefflen'
The inscription inside the cover translates as 'Year 1692 It is the Year in which this Master Beaker has been renewed by the Three Sworn in Masters - Hans Reichenbach, Jacob Cristoph Bauer, Hans Simon Bittner'
