    An early rectangular snuff-box, with rounded corners, the hinged cover finely painted with a view of the monument to Peter the Great by Falconet; a larger rectangular box on four feet, painted with Italianate landscape with anglers beside a lake by moonlight both marked inside covers; a snuff-box with a portrait of Field-Marshal Suvorov; a purse with a woman pushing a barrow, with two children, blue silk lining, with label inside; and a pair of studs with a peasant man and woman, apparently unmarked

    Count Suvorov (1729-1800) was a great Russian general. He never lost a battle throughout his long career, conducting campaigns in Finland, Poland, the Crimea and Italy, and famously leading his army undefeated across the Alps, a feat not achieved since Hannibal.
