    Meiji period (late 19th century), Signed Zeshin [Shibata Zeshin (1807-1891)]
    Rectangular, with deep lower container and shallow lid, designed in polychrome (iro-e) relief lacquer (takamaki-e) with highlights of inlaid irisdescent shell (aogai) with three boats of treasures of the immortals (takarabune), the hulls of two boats silver lacquer resembling inlaid pewter and the hull of the third gold lacquer, the ground black lacquer (roiro), mottled in patches to give the effect of rippling water; signature incised on base in one corner; interior smooth raw wood, rims copper
