The LANGE DOUBLE SPLIT is a new chronographic innovation inspired by a Lange double rattrapante pocket watch that dates back to 1891. In 2004, this horological accomplishment opened up a new dimension in mechanical chronometry as the world's first flyback chronograph with a double rattrapante mechanism.

Building on the foundation of the classic column wheel principle of the Datograph (see lot 3381 and 3384) and Datograph Perpetual (lot 3385), the Double Split presents itself in a completely new and distinctive garb as the world's first mechanical flyback chronograph wristwatch with a double rattrapante feature with not only one but two rattrapante hands.
"Rattraper" is the French verb "to catch", and a rattrapante hand is a sweep seconds hand that catches up with the chronograph hand. Conventional rattrapante mechanisms have always been limited to measurement intervals of 60 seconds, because they had only one rattrapante hand. The Double Split, however, has a rattrapante minute counter as well as a chronograph minute counter, allowing a rattrapante time measuring range of up to 30 minutes, as opposed to 60 seconds with the conventional chronographs. This was achieved by duplicating the construction of the chrono/rattrapante wheel pair - i.e. the minute-counter wheel has a through bore that accommodates the shaft of the second rattrapante wheel.

The accrued know-how of the Double Split is manifested in the 465 individual parts of the newly developed calibre L001.1. Each part is painstakingly finished by hand, the plates and bridges made of untreated German silver are decorated with perlage and Glashütte ribbing; all edges are chamfered and polished; the whiplash spring and the two classic column wheels are of course not overlooked. The supreme artisanship is fully revealed through the sapphire-crystal case back and will certainly delight the aficionado.

The Double Split is available exclusively in platinum with a reinforced crocodile strap.
