A large Chinese blue and white moulded 'phoenix' dish, Kangxi (1662-1722)
with moulded lappet shaped spiralling walls, the central medallion painted with two phoenix amidst foliate peony scrolls, the sides with lappet panels enclosing monkeys climbing on gnarled pine trees alternating with peony sprays, the undersides with lotus and peony sprays, underglaze-blue artemesia leaf mark -- 15 3/8in. (39cm.) diam.; and a large blue and white dish, painted with peony and lotus sprays growing amidst rockwork in a fenced garden, the rim with lotus and peony blossoms encircled by a cross-hatched diaper band, early Qianlong (1736-1795).
