A LARGE OTTOMAN SILVER-MOUNTED BELT
SIGNED MUHAMMAD UKAN (?), OTTOMAN TURKEY OR CAUCASUS, DATED AH 1278/1861-2 AD
Formed of two rectangular panels and a central disk, the hinge concealed on the reverse, the decoration with applied silver filigree bosses, the borders with embossed cross-motif bands, surrounded with fine filigree and granulated work, with coloured glass insets, the central panels with nielloed arabesques, the buckle signed and dated in niello on the concealed part of the right hand side panel, the leather belt decorated with applied Russian coins and embossed silver roundels, some dated between 1827 and 1830
