    The cup painted with classical soldiers encamped, confronting a standing crowned figure, the saucer with soldiers and horses engaged in battle, perhaps the battle of Anghiari, below a winged figure, enclosed by an elaborate baroque cartouche of brown scrollwork, below a continuous border of trailing green oak leaves

    The battle depicted on the saucer may be the battle of Anghiari, which took place between the Florentines and Milanese on June 29th 1440.
