    The composition divided into ten compartments, the first six (from the left) showing the Anastasis, the Synaxis of the Archangels, the Decollation of John the Baptist and below, the Annunciation, the Washing of the Feet together with the Last Supper and the Crucifixion; the next scene arranged over two registers depicting Christ in Majesty above and beneath the crowd of the Righteous people, the last two sections portraying a group of Russian Bishops and Metropolitans above and monastic saints below, painted in great detail, according to the traditional manner, both in style and iconography of the individual scenes

    Jan Willem Beyen (1897 - 1976), purchased the icon during his official visit to the Soviet Union when he was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands; thence by descent to the present owners
