    The cylindrical container decorated in relief with classical scenes, surmounted by a domed lid with pine-cone finial and flanked by ring-bearing lion's masks, issuing a spout with lyre-shaped tap and supported by six classically draped maidens on a hexagonal base centred by a vase-shaped reservoir

    The bas-relief on the present lot celebrates Peace and the triumph of the harvest and agriculture deity Ceres, with the trophy of arms borne on a fame-trumpeted chariot. Related samovars were sold anonymously, Christie's, New York, 20 April 2000, lots 36 and 37.
