The arms are those of Copley for John Singleton Copley, 1st Baron Lyndhurst (1772-1863), son of John Singleton Copley (1738-1815) the renowned American artist. The Boston-born Copley was educated at Cambridge, served in Parliament and eventually attained the position of Lord Chancellor.
