This piece was made in 1888 in honor of King Albert's (1828-1902) fifteenth year on the throne. He is noted as an adept military commander in the First War of Schleswig, the Austro-Prussian War, and the Franco-Prussian War. His residence, Dresden Castle, was first built in 1200, though many extensions and additions were added in time. The building was largely ruined in the bombing of Dresden during the second World War, but, after great restoration efforts, parts of the building were reopened to the public in 2005.
