    CIRCA 1725-28, THE UPPER RIM MOUNTS POSSIBLY MID-18TH CENTURY, THE PLINTH MOUNTS MID OR THIRD QUARTER OF THE 19TH CENTURY
    Each painted with continuous estuary scenes, with merchants and figures at discussion, unloading ships and at various pursuits, the shores strewn with barrels and packages, the distance with fortifications and buildings on rocky islands before distant galleons and ships, above double iron-red line borders and gilt gadrooned feet, the rims mounted with shaped gilt-metal bands above Gitterwerk borders on the exterior and interior, mounted on spreading stepped hexagonal gilt-metal plinths chased with foliage scrolls (minute wear)

    See the example of similar form illustrated in Museum für Kunsthandwerk Frankfurt am Main Catalogue (1983), no. 40. A beaker of the same form from the Baronne Alix de Rothschild Collection was sold in these Rooms on 28th June 1976, lot 174 and again by Christie's Geneva on 11th November 1985, lot 166. Another was sold by Christie's Geneva on 9th May 1988, lot 65. Other beakers of this form were sold in these Rooms on 1st March 1993, lot 74 (from the Korthaus Collection); on 26th October 1993, lot 403, on 3rd June 1996, lot 457, and on 21st February 2005, lot 5.
