The Flamingo States was a race for three year olds that was held every April at Hialeah Park, Florida. First run in 1926, this nine furlong race was known as the Florida Derby until 1937. It was an important early prep race for the Kentucky Derby and a Grade 1 race until 1989. The Hialeah Park racetrack ran into financial problems and the facility ceased operations with the last Flamingo Stakes run in 2001.
