    CIRCA 1775, IMPRESSED FACTORY MARK 'H. PALMER' TO BASALT PLINTH
    Sponged in blue, the raised ornament enriched in gilding, the shoulders applied with stylised handles modelled as helmeted female masks linked by a simple foliage garland and centred by pendant oval medallions of Cleopatra above scrollwork and stiff leaf borders, mounted on square black basalt plinth

    The marks on these vases denote the manufacturer Humphrey Palmer, who partnered James Neale, the firm variously operating as Humphrey Palmer or Neale & Palmer. It was based at the Church Works, Hanley, Staffordshire.
