    Carved and pierced with the eight immortals and attendants in a large raft, formed from a large gnarled tree-section with curved terminal and trailing pine and willow branches with two monkeys climbing to the side, the wood with a dark brown patina
    13 in. (33 cm.) long, wood stand

    A similar carving was sold in our New York Rooms, 29 March 2006, lot 242; another sold in Sotheby's Hong Kong, 4 November 1997, lot 1231; and another in Sotheby's New York, 18 March 2008, lot 52.
    Compare the similar carving of immortals in a peach-tree log boat from the Simon Kwan Collection included in the exhibition, Ming and Qing Bamboo, University Museum and Art Gallery, The University of Hong Kong, 2000, pp. 372-3, no. 113, where it is dated Jiaqing to Daoguang (1796-1850).
