    A rare carved Longquan celadon baluster jar, Yuan Dynasty (1279-1368)
    the heavily potted jar carved in relief with a scrolling peony, the large blooms with cross-hatched stamens borne on thick leafy stems, the shoulders with a band of pendent petal panels below an incised classic scroll border, the waisted foot decorated with upright petals, all supported on an unglazed footrim burnt orange in the firing, the underside of the base countersunk in the centre, covered overall with a thick bubble-suffused green glaze - 11¾in. (30cm.) high.
