    A rare porcelain ink-stand
    by the Popov Porcelain Factory, Moscow, second half 19th century
    Formed as a thatched cottage with scrolling gables, a tree climbing up one side, a peasant in simple Russian costume and holding a stick, with a dog, beside a hollow tree stump at one end and his wife emerging from the front door at the other, to one side a detachable bucket with ivory cover forms the inkwell, with a cart wheel as the pen holder, on shaped naturalistic base, marked under base with blue underglaze Cyrillic monogram 'AP' and under the bucket with incised, blue underglaze mark
    6¾ in. (17.2 cm.) high
