The serpentine brèche violette marble top above a spreading cornice and slightly bombé case set with a cupboard door painted with a mythological scene, opening to a rosewood-lined interior with two adjustable shelves, the sides with quarter-veneered panels, above a wavy apron and splayed feet with scrolled sabots, the centre mount stamped EM, the reverse stencilled AMEUBLEMENTS/E.DIENST & FILS/PARIS/RUE DU FBG ST. ANTOINE [86]

Lot Essay

Taking over his father's workshop at 86, rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine in 1871, Eugène Dienst remained there until the end of the century. He was awarded a gold medal for his exhibits at the Paris 1889 Exposition Universelle.
