A ROMAN GOLD AND MOSAIC GLASS FINGER RING

The sheet gold hoop hammered flat, with a lozenge at the base, each rounded end perforated and threaded with a wire which passes through the bead and coils around each end, the thick rectangular bead with a mask of Medusa at the center, with white for the flesh, the almond-shaped eyes with black for the pupils surrounded by opaque white, the brows, lids, nose and chin in pale blue, the oval mouth in black with red lips, enclosed within a black band with four squares merging with the surrounding checkerboard of greenish-blue, black, yellow, white and red
