The Duke of Kent was born in 1767, 4th son of George III. He died in January 1820. By his marriage to Victoria of Saxe-Coburg and Saalfeld there was only one child born 24 May 1819 who came to the British throne in 1837 as Queen Victoria. The Victoria in the inscription obviously refers to Victoria of Saxe-Coburg and Saalfeld rather than her daughter Queen Victoria.
