    Provenance

This service belonged to Marguerite Chapin of New London, Connecticut, who became Princess Caetani in 1911 when she married the Italian Prince, Roffredo Caetani. From her prominent position in Europe, Princess Caetani promoted the work of many avant-garde literary figures of the 1940s and 1950s; she exposed writers like Dylan Thomas, Edith Sitwell and Tennessee Williams to an international audience through her literary magazine, Botteghe Oscure.
