A mug by John Edwards engraved with the same monogram W over IS is in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. The mug, dating circa 1720, was made for Jacob Wendell and Sarah (Oliver) Wendell, who married on August 12, 1714, and it is likely that they were the owners of this spout cup as well.
See Kathryn C. Buhler, American Silver 1655-1825 in the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, 1972, p. 105, no. 86.
