    LATE EASTERN ZHOU/WESTERN HAN DYNASTY, 3RD-2ND CENTURY BC
    Both sides carved in low relief with comma spirals within narrow inner and outer borders, the semi-translucent stone highly polished and with areas of dark brown alteration; together with two flat discs, early Eastern Zhou and Han dynasty, the larger of semi-translucent pale olive-green color, both sides carved with dragon heads in profile and scrolls as well as cross-hatching, the smaller of semi-translucent grey-green color with blackish markings, engraved on both sides with abstract bird scrolls with areas of cross-hatching

    Similar incised and carved scroll designs can be seen on flat jade bi of the Western Han period unearthed in Jingzhou, Hubei province, such as the two illustrated in The Complete Collection of Jades Unearthed in China - 10 - Hubei, Hunan, Beijing, 2005, p. 134 (excavated from Fenghuangshan) and p. 135 (excavated from Wafenyuan).
