A clock of similar design, attributed to Johann Huggler, was sold, Christie's South Kensington, sale 9817, European Furniture and works of Art, 7 April 2004, lot 412.
A clock of similar design by Johann Huggler (The Carving King) was exhibited on the Swiss stand at the Paris Exhibition of 1900 and is illustrated in The Art Journal Catalogue.
Schneiter (who's birthdate and first name are unknown) is mentioned on a list as one of the craftsman involved in the production and sale of carvings in Brienz. Brienz was a well known centre of woodcarving in the second half of the 19th Century. In 1862 the Drawing and Modelling School of Brienz was founded and became the centre of the Brienz carving industry. This school enabled carvers to work in an orderly fashion and make original and high quality creations. This clock which is signed K. Schneiter is a good example of the technical ability to work in a naturalistic way, typical of the Brienz carvings. Signed carvings of this size and quality are rare.
