The octagonal form of this striking bowl, with its conforming octagonal foot, is very rare in Longquan ware, but can be found in other classic Song wares, such as the Ge ware bowl from the Qing Court Collection preserved in the Palace Museum, Beijing. See The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - 32 - Porcelain of the Song Dynasty, Hong Kong, 1996, p. 76, no. 69. A Longquan bowl with similar octagonal sides, but supported on a circular foot, is illustrated in Celadons from Longquan Kilns, Taipei, 1998, p. 216, no. 196.
