Normally associated with the painter Dodin, such compositions were based on Boucher's work of the mid 1730s in Livre de Groupes d'Enfants. Charles Buteux (l'aîné, later père) was a painter of figures, trophies and flowers at Sèvres from 1756 to 1782, and Jean-Baptiste Tandart (l'aîné) was a painter of flowers from 1754 to 1800.
