    The image sculpted in the recession of the panel under an ogee arch, showing in high relief the saint on horseback, wearing elaborate armour of Mongolian type and a cape, his lance with a cruciform standard, being plunged into the mouth of the winged, coiled dragon, a small portrait of the rescued Princess Elisaba painted in a further recession in the background, at the upper right corner Christ emerging from a heavenly segment, wearing a tripartite halo and blessing the saint, the carved image partly painted in gold, white and red, the border decorated with stylized foliage and interlaced patterns, each side with an image, the upper one depicting the Mandylion, the other three selected saints, two carved inscriptions at the back of the icon testifying to the icon's commission
