    An "Amamori" type Stoneware Bowl
    Choson period (16th century)
    Thinly thrown on the wheel with evenly proportioned curved walls balanced on a small circular foot and ending in an everted rim, covered with a thin transparent glaze with dense crackle and clouds and spots of staining known in Japan as amamori (leaky roof)

    Wheel-thrown, slender-walled wares with the natural cloud and spot staining that appear on this vessel are known in Japan as amamori after the pattern stains leave on a roof after it has leaked. Acquiring their stains from repeated use, the wares have been prized in tea circles for centuries.
